Located at the University of Saint Joseph, the Art Museum at USJ is a special spot. Amongst the beauty of the University buildings and the campus itself, the art museum is small and tucked away. Over the summer, on display was the “Where Are the Women? Rediscovering the Origins of Connecticut Women Artists”. This show celebrated the 90th Anniversary of Connecticut Women Artists, and featured women-created artworks advocating for women and other professional artists during early 20th century movements. The show was thoughtfully put together and offered an interesting look not only at historical art, but at a show solely by female artists. Additionally, many of these pieces had never even been seen by the public, so this exhibit was a real treat! I particularly enjoyed this gallery for other reasons than the art, however. The museum was quiet and intimate, and I felt as though I was really able to absorb the art I was looking at in a really unique way. Overall, the carefully curated shows at the Art Museum at USJ, combined with the peaceful and contemplative galleries, really are a must to add to your bucket list.
